SUPPLIES FOR SUCCESS

The YMCA of Orange County Hosts

6th Annual Backpack Drive

The YMCA of Orange County is excited to continue our tradition of helping kids in our after school programs by supplying them with a new backpack full of school supplies to kick off the school year. Our goal is to ensure that kids in our underserved communities start with their best foot forward. Having the proper supplies allows children to feel confident that they can succeed in a classroom environment.

The YMCA has a long history of helping people and communities in need of support and in an effort to expand that reach, we started a new tradition in the summer of 2013: The Backpack & Supplies Drive. The goal of the initiative was to collect new backpacks and essential school supplies to help kids in our local communities go to school prepared and achieve educational success. That goal aligns with our mission that all people have access and opportunities to participate regardless of economic or social status. To further that, the Y has been listening and responding to communities’ most critical social needs for more than a century. YMCA service projects like the Backpack & Supplies Drive unite us all as a community with the shared goal of creating a better world for our neighbors in need.

This year we are focusing our efforts to collect supplies for our 1,200+ After School Education & Safety (ASES) Program students. This program supports low-income families by providing a safe and educational after school environment through state grants and YMCA fundraising.

Donations will be accepted from now through July 31st at several YMCA of Orange County locations, the Murrieta Family YMCA in Riverside County, and Maple Hill Family YMCA in Pomona Valley.

Organizations and groups can get involved by conducting their own drives and collecting backpacks and supplies at their offices, schools, churches, or community centers.
